Women in Technology
The Women in Technology (WIT) Program was initiated in 1998 with the goal of helping women like you overcome the obstacles to entering a career in a historically male-dominated field.
The Program works primarily with women enrolled in:
- Facilities Maintenance Technology
- Digital Media Arts
- Electronics Engineering Technology
- Electronic Systems Technology
- Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Industrial Electronics: Computer Technology
- Networking Technology
The program has met with significant success.
- Women now represent 30% of TCI’s enrollment, an increase of nearly 5%.
- The percentage of women enrolled in technical programs has increased by over 22%.
How We Support You
Workshops and seminars are offered on topics that compliment your classroom education. You will:
- receive information and guidance on technical careers.
- acquire new technical and academic skills.
- network with women with successful technical careers.
Here’s a sampling of the programs currently offered to current and prospective TCI students, and community service groups.
Introduction to PC Hardware - Many people have never seen the inside of a computer let alone understand how it works. Participants will take computers apart and discover how they tick.
Introduction to Computers - This 10-week program, specially designed for community groups serving women, provides an orientation to computer basics.
Technology Boot Camp for Women – This two-week program for new TCI students includes:
- a special orientation to TCI
- workshops that focus on electronics, computer, and PC hardware skills
- seminars to help you develop the study skills you need for success in your studies
Services and Resources

The WINR’S Club (Women in Non-traditional Roles) is a student organization that addresses the professional development of its members through peer mentoring and career guidance.
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a national education service society with an active student chapter at TCI. It assists women pursuing degrees in traditionally male dominated fields through tutoring, counseling, and educational and social events.
TCI Times for Her, our quarterly newsletter, provides career advice and support as well as articles to help you stay current on issues relevant to women in technology.
TCI’s Women in Traditional Roles Scholarship provides three $500 scholarships each semester for women enrolled in digital media arts, electronics engineering technology, environmental control technology, industrial electronics technology, or networking technology.
To apply you must submit:
- a copy of the TCI financial planning worksheet (new students) or account card (continuing students).
- a typed essay detailing your need for the scholarship, including the need for assistance for non-direct educational costs such as child care and transportation.
