About the Program

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program in Accounting Technology at TCI College focuses on preparing you to meet the demand for accounting professionals, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects will continue increasing in the next decade.

Led by faculty who are seasoned accounting professionals, in this two-year program you can:

  • Gain hands-on experience in accounting principles, procedures and software, including the use of accounting software such as QuickBooks Pro and Peachtree.
  • Learn to interpret, synthesize and analyze financial information with courses that include principles of accounting, computerized accounting, federal income tax and cost accounting.
  • Enhance your critical thinking and analytical skills and improve your verbal and writing skills to communicate effectively in an organizational setting.
  • Benefit from flexible scheduling that enables you to fulfill your classroom requirements in as little as three days a week.
  • Access financial aid to make earning your accounting technology degree more affordable than you may think.

Advance your Career—or Your Education
TCI College graduates who earn their associate degree in accounting technology go on to find jobs as accounts clerks and supervisors, billing and purchasing clerks, bookkeepers, payroll secretaries and tax representatives. Others go on to continue their education at leading four-year colleges that share TCI’s New York State Board of Regents State or Middle States Commission on Higher Education Regional Accreditations.

Xiaoying Li is a TCI Accounting major from China who brings the same work ethic she used to learn English as a second language to her studies. An international student, Xiaoying chose TCI College because she believes she’ll receive the best education to prepare her for a career in the accounting field—hopefully as the owner of her own firm.

How has your mentor at TCI helped you to grow?

She’s very supportive of me and is always available to listen. She really has helped me to grow as a person and a student.

What advice would you give to a student who is struggling?

I would tell them that if they have access to the lessons, they should review them before class so they’re better prepared and familiar with the material. They should also take their time and do their homework carefully, reviewing it when they’re done. And never give up—there’s always someone at TCI who’s there to listen.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning English was very challenging for me, and I’m still learning every day. I still work very hard to get good grades and am lucky to have great teachers who are always patient and there to help.

What are your goals after graduation?

I’d like to work in the accounting field and apply the people skills I’ve learned at TCI. My main goal is to have my own company instead of working for someone else.
