History
For more than 100 years, Technical Career Institutes (TCI) has inspired students in college career paths to lead brighter and more fulfilling futures. TCI’s reputation for excellence in education is underscored by its dual accreditation from the New York State Board of Regents and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.1 TCI’s broad-based curricula offers diverse state-of-the-industry training at the Associate's Degree level taught by more than 245 highly qualified faculty.
Founded under the leadership of Nobel Prize recipient Guglielmo Marconi, TCI was a leading center for education and development in the communications industry. Later, the school was propelled forward by graduate David Sarnoff, pioneer of American commercial radio and television, and co-founder of the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
Value
Today, TCI serves more than 3,977 students in a spring or fall semester with 21 academic degree programs and 3 certificate programs that focus on technology, business, engineering, healthcare and many other career paths.
The College works hand-in-hand with major New York City employers to develop curricula that prepare students for the needs of today's business environment.
Class sizes are designed to be small to encourage open and creative discussions. Half of the classrooms have labs that enable you to apply and practice what you have learned as theory. TCI’s unique balance of theory and hands-on curricula gives you the competitive edge when seeking employment.
More than 20% of TCI’s incoming students transfer from other colleges because they recognize the value of TCI. In a 2008 national survey conducted by Community College Week, TCI ranked #3 in the nation for two-year institutionsin the awarding of Associate Degrees in Computer & Information Sciences & Support Services.
Flexibility
The college offers flexible and convenient schedules so that you can attend class and achieve your goals while recognizing that you may have a busy, multi-faceted lifestyle. Because you may also be working while attending college, TCI has developed programs with flexible class schedules, which allows you to fulfill your class requirements in as little as 3 days per week.
TCI’s student body is richly diverse and our highly trained staff of counselors offers you a wealth of experiences. Financial aid, which may be available from both state and federal sources, assist high school graduates, GED holders and those seeking higher education without a high school diploma or GED. TCI has found that many mature students who may not have a high school diploma or GED, but have life experience and are dedicated to attending classes regularly, succeed in earning a high school equivalency from New York State at the same time they earn their Associate’s Degree.
You simply can't get more convenient in New York City than the location of TCI's main campus. Situated in the heart of Manhattan, directly across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, TCI is easy to reach from all parts of the city and beyond.
