Civil and Environmental Technology

The country’s infrastructure is in immediate need of an overhaul.  Buildings, bridges and roads are in great need of upgrading or significant repairs. The process will require the expertise of many college graduates who can analyze, interpret, and perform challenging technical projects.

The inherent complexity associated with climate change and environmental degradation requires governmental agencies and industry to seriously evaluate their practices and actively seek environmentally friendly processes for manufacturing and construction.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology will prepare you to work on addressing the major infrastructure challenges of the 21st century in a sustainable manner.  The curriculum is designed so you can face the challenges involving the planning and analysis of civil engineering and surveying projects. Modern approaches to the planning, analysis, and design of urban structures and hydraulic systems will be emphasized.

Technical instruction will be reinforced with core courses emphasizing written and oral communication. The instruction is presented with problem solving in mind and strong emphasis on critical thinking.  You will develop expertise in environmental challenges such as.:

  • Performing oversight of environmental remediation activities including air and water quality.
  • Documenting field operations, writing reports, collecting and reviewing data.
  • Developing plans using AutoCAD drafting, topographic surveying and assistance with construction stakeout and construction review.
  • Performing site surveys and inspections to ensure the required work is accomplished satisfactorily and conforms to the contract specifications.
  • Inspecting or installing of concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and structural steel.
