About Dr. John J. McGrath

Dr. John J. McGrath is the chairman, president, and chief executive officer of EVCI Career Colleges Holding Corp., a public company that owns and operates private colleges. He is also the president and chief executive officer of TCI College in New York City.
TCI College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education as well as the Board of Regents of the State of New York.1 The school offers 14 degree programs which specialize in business, engineering, health information technology, and other professional degrees. It has been ranked for thirteen consecutive years as one of the Top Two-Year Colleges in America by Community College Week.*
As the senior executive of TCI College, Dr. McGrath is responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and financial operationsof the College. His experience in academic administration includes positions as a professor, distinguished professor, department chairman, dean, vice president, president, and chief executive officer of numerous colleges and his educational specialties are in constitutional law, criminal law, criminal procedure law, and evidence.
Dr. McGrath has opened and supervised more college extension sites than any other college administrator in New York State and has raised over $120 million from public and private investors for his company. As founder, chief executive officer, and president of EVCI Career Colleges Holding Corp. (NASDAQ 1999), he worked through Bell Atlantic Telecommunications in conjunction with the University of Notre Dame, Saint John's University, Adelphi University, Manhattan College, and Mercy College to video conference undergraduate and graduate degree programs to Merrill Lynch, Citibank, American International Group, and the New York City Police Department. This Telecommute to College program was Bell Atlantic's second largest marketing initiative on the eastern seaboard of the United States in 2000.
Dr. McGrath's primary goal and ultimate passion is to help economically disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students to secure a quality college degree.Through his belief of incorporating both theory and practice in academic curricula, and his vision, entrepreneurship, and leadership, EVCI colleges have graduated tens of thousands of African American and Hispanic students in New York City and Pennsylvania. His philosophy about education can be summarized by his favorite quotes; "Courage is half the battle" and "The person who knows how will most likely have a job, but the person who also knows why will have a better chance to be the boss."
Dr. McGrath received a bachelor's degree in philosophy, summa cum laude, and a master's degree in criminal justice from Long Island University before earning a PhD with highest honors in law and criminal justice from Fordham University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. His doctoral dissertation, which examined the political philosophy of Sinn Fein and the military strategy of the Irish Republican Army, was very well received by the scholastic community. Dr. McGrath followed that success with a debate performance focused on the North Ireland Peace Process which was covered worldwide by CNN.
Dedicated to the continual pursuit of education, Dr. McGrath also completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Education's Program for Experienced College Presidents as well as post-doctoral work in entrepreneurship at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. McGrath enjoys studying Irish history and politics and he has served as president of several lrish organizations in New York and Connecticut. His favorite leisure activities include public speaking, chess, jet skiing, scuba diving, and playing guitar.
