Technical Career Institutes (TCI) is a two-year technical college providing education in the fields of air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration; facilities maintenance management; computerized accounting systems; health information technology; computer technology; electronics; networking; digital media arts; software technology; and office technology.
For the past several years, the annual survey published by Community College Week, the independent newspaper of community, technical, and junior colleges, has ranked TCI first or second nationally in the conferral of engineering-related two-year degrees. The college is located in mid-town Manhattan. As an urban institution, it serves a diverse group of more than 3000 students from approximately 90 countries. TCI prides itself on providing a practical hands-on education that prepares its graduates for technical employment opportunities in the New York City area. |

| Financial Advisor |
Reports to: Associate Director of Student Financial Services
Salary Type: Collective Bargaining Unit

- counsels and assists prospective and continuing students in completing all necessary applications for federal, state and institutional financial assistance programs;
- determines a student’s eligibility for financial assistance by calculating federal methodology and state needs analysis through software programs on TCI’s computer network; assesses student eligibility prior to and throughout enrollment at TCI by accessing NYSHESC, NSLDS and ISIR Datamart computer-based information systems;
- counsels and informs students and parents regarding expected financial aid awards, tuition costs and student account balances; completes a financial planning worksheet containing such information;
- reviews student accounts and processes student requests for cash disbursements (i.e. student refunds) within federally mandated time frames;
- reviews financial aid files to determine accuracy of eligibility determinations; sends correspondence to students to resolve conflicting data; ensures compliance with federal verification requirements and maintains orderly financial aid files based on institutional standards;
- completes extensive budget counseling to assist the student in identifying resources and costs associated with financing his or her education; documents the occurrence of such counseling;
- determines instances when a student’s request for loan funds should be reduced or denied and documents such circumstances as required in the federal regulations;
- certifies FFELP, FDLP and Perkins loans using current regulations and institutional procedures; completes the FFELP certification process using the on-line NYSHESC computer system, the on-line OpenNet system and the on-line Nteract system;
- immediately forwards information to the Director of Student Financial Services if, at any time, it is discovered that a student has given false or misleading data on a financial aid application in order to receive financial assistance; and completes other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Student Financial Services.

- Candidate(s) must have a minimum of two years related experience.
